Technology College Status

Schools Curriculum Award 1997

The school comprises a pleasant 28 acre site with buildings dating from the late 1950s and 1970s. A one million pound extension to the sixth form and science accommodation was completed in September 2004 , reflecting the popularity and increased roll of the school. The role currently stands at 1380 (inclusive of 250 in the sixth form). Technology College Status was awarded in September 1998 and repeated in April 2006. The School is popular and over-subscribed.

The School's reputation is based upon an ethos that places the student at the heart of learning. An atmosphere of trust and respect between staff and students, contributes to the positive and friendly atmosphere in the School.

We are very proud of our students and we also have high expectations of uniform and behavior and expect all our students to achieve to the best of their ability.  We also work very hard to develop them as good citizens and members of the community.

Our students perform very well in GCSE, A level and GNVQ examinations. Guilsborough has consistently and continually achieved excellent results in the School Performance Tables.

The population at Guilsborough is typically comprehensive. Our students represent the full spectrum in terms of ability and socio-economic background. Significant numbers go on to higher education with support provided for the most able students to apply to Oxbridge and other highly regarded universities. The School is also noted for the level of activities in extra curricular areas and high standards are achieved in music, drama and sport.  As well as holding Technology College status the school holds awards for Citizenship, Healthy schools, Sportsmark and Investors in People.  We are currently applying for the Artsmark award.
