Help for Parents on Careers Guidance Support in the Sixth Form

How does guidance work in the Sixth Form?

The whole Sixth Form programme outside subjects, is based around introducing students to a range of experiences and information that will enable them to make informed decisions about their future. The whole Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth Personal Development Programme (click the pink or blue buttons above) is designed to encourage students to think through their next steps using a combination of talks from speakers, web guidance and educational visits.

For most, but not all Guilsborough Sixth Formers, the next step they will take will be into higher education (for guidance about this click here). Some students will already have decided on a career pathway when they apply to university, some my have a rough idea and others will have no idea at all. All of these positions are fine. Many people don't decide on their final career until they are at university.

For those students who decide to enter the world of work, there is the opportunity to learn about the opportunities available, through looking at guidance sites, talking with tutors, looking at the careers library and obtaining professinal advice from our careers advisor. We hope that by the end of year 12, all students will have a clear idea about their next step.
